usedminers is a used miners marketplace combined with an operational dashboard. My team and I designed the brand, the e-shop and the dashboard, helping usedminers to differentiate from the rest of the competition via meticulous UX and UI Design.

Building The Brand

The audience in this industry is hugely diverse. They think and see things differently. So, we had to design a brand which can fit anywhere between these different personalities.


A logo is not just a symbol or a colourful presentation, it’s the perception of an image which helps people to understand the meaning. So, we started with the target. We wanted to make a visual, where it can present the message of the bitcoin mining.


We choose intense blue color which symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth. This color is the primary color and we used orange (which is complimentary to blue) black and grey for secondary color.The font evokes the simplicity and modern look we wanted to achieve.

 

Icons are an important part too. It gives the premium and professional vibe. They communicate with users and help them understand the words easily. So, we made a custom icon pack, especially for the brand.

Understanding the User, his Pains and his Goals

A person who is into bitcoin mining is concerned with 1) ROI (“Is it actually worth my time and investment?”), 2) sheer profit (“How much am I earning if I choose your farm?”), 3) power cost (“How much cheaper is the power cost?”),  4) security (“Yes, but is my miners safe in your farm?”) and last but not least 5) quality of monitoring tool (“Will I be able to have full control of my miners?”). All five of these questions are answered in our UI, through the ROI calculator and the informational text that is placed in strategic positions in the landing page.

51% of users abandon the checkout flow due to the complicated process and because they couldn’t calculate the total cost up-front. We applied the best UX practices in order to keep the users from abandoning the flow. We show it with a progress bar so that the user knows what information she has to fill at each stage. This also breaks down the process into chunks and the user is not burdened with everything on one page. We display the right visual hierarchy. It helps the users in two ways- it gives them the clarity on the miners they are buying and it gives them control over their actions. When done right, visual hierarchy helps users understand what needs their attention. Last, but not least, we keep the form fields minimal and clear.
